A Series of Polymer Clay Sculptures
The inspiration for this piece came from previous exposure to different animal testing methods. In one of them, researchers used pairs of live mice surgically conjoined to share a single blood cycle. Combining these two animals into one hybrid, grotesque organism is bizarre. Although this new organism may be regarded as a monster, it was sculpted in a way which evokes empathy. In so doing, the work highlights our conflicting perception of animals—both as living beings and as research material.
